Initially created back in 1905, the very first bottle of Champagne Salon was nothing more than a passion project, intended purely for the personal consumption of founder Eugène-Aimé Salon.
Salon’s friends, however, had other ideas. As he began to share his creation, its popularity spread, leading eventually to the house’s first commercial bottling in 1921.
Today, while the house is owned by Laurent Perrier, it remains one of the industry’s smallest notable producers, creating its 37 vintages to date entirely from one single hectare vineyard plot, the Salon Garden.
A favourite of oenophiles and collecters, 2002 and 2012 vintages of the brand’s signature Salon Le Mesnil are currently among the most sought after bottles on the luxury secondary market. Despite its elusiveness, however, a small group of restaurants in Dubai do currently offer Salon on their wine lists.
