In 1792, the Royal Abbey of Saint-Remi’s land and vineyards were bought by Nicolas Arlaux, whose family had already been cultivating the vineyeards for several centuries under the monks’ rule.
In 1826, one year after the coronation of Charles X, the last King of France, Jean Arlaux decided to produce his first bottles of sparkling wine, which today represent the total output of the house.
For more than 15 generations the Arlaux family has produced wines on the same land in the heart of the protected “la Montagne de Reims” area.
Arlaux champagne is classified as a Premier Cru and the vineyard is one of the very last to bear French grape vines that survived the Phylloxera epidemic of the 19th Century.
Since 1997, Arlaux has committed to growing methods that respect the environment, such as using pheromone diffusers to repel insects, no chemical weeding, natural treatments and using cartons made of materials from eco-raised forests.
