The premise of Alici is a very simple yet ambitious one; to give diners a taste and feeling of what it’s like to eat in the vibrant landscape of the South of Italy. Think the Amalfi coast, with fresh ingredients and fantastic views; all paired with stellar fine-dining service. While that sounds ambitious, the restaurant’s founder, Orange Hospitality’s Omar Saideh, has found the winning formula, and the restaurant continues to stand out.
Alici is located on Bluewaters Dubai island and spans two floors. The best views, of Dubai’s Jumeirah Beach Residence, are to be had from the upstairs terrace, but that’s not to say that sitting inside is without merit. The interior design of Alici is authentically Italian, that’s helped by Lucio Liguori, the artisan pottery and ceramic makers based on the Amalfi Coast, who hand-crafted the restaurant’s tableware.
Alici’s wine list boasts more than 250 labels from the world’s major producers but also includes several local labels from Southern Italy. Service is a big plus for the restaurant, with staff not just able to tell you what’s on the menu, but why and provide recommendations by taste. That’s no small feat when you consider that head chef Domenico Santagada routinely adds to the menu with ingredients from local farms, as well as fresh prawns, tuna and swordfish from Italy.
Alici serves a relaxed mix of dishes, with each one elevated by the quality of the ingredients and the beautiful plating.
